CONSTRUCTION WATCH SCOTLAND

BULLETIN 05/09/2024

This bulletin covers the last three weeks of notable Construction incidents for the week ending 3rd September 2024.

Please take the appropriate measures to protect machinery, material, especially cable and fuel tanks at your construction sites, these continue to be targeted by criminals.

In order to secure your sites and property, Police approved security products can be found at www.securedbydesign.com . Security guidance can also be found here for both businesses and domestic situations. The National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) has also produced the following excellent guidance; Construction Site Security Guidance (nbcc.police.uk)

Fuel remains a valuable commodity for criminals and continues to be targeted. Sites should ensure your fuel tanks and machines are adequately protected, and the minimum amount is left in machinery when unattended.

A continuing trend throughout the UK is the theft of surveying equipment as well as the theft of cable and wiring. Please ensure that sufficient measures are in place to protect these assets.

PS-20240829-1137	Theft - Fuel	EDINBURGH	Caller reports that people have been seen on CCTV running backwards and forwards stealing diesel from one of their machines on site	Diesel 300 litres

PS-20240901-3709	Damage - Plant	EDINBURGH	Youths have smashed 11/12 glass panes of the machines/diggers likely with stones. This happened about an hour ago.

PS-20240902-4177	Housebreaking	KIRKCALDY	Caller reports that he observed males in a vehicle cutting the padlock from a container at locus, and stealing items from within, before driving away. Police attended and found the padlocks cut off but nothing appears to be stolen.	U/K

PS-20240830-0765	Theft - Metal	DALMELLINGTON	Caller reporting that two containers at site have been broken into and tools stolen.	Generator, Stihl Saw, 2 x Rolls of copper
PS-20240830-1028	Damage - Site	IRVINE	Caller reporting that new build houses have been broken into and ‘smashed up’

PS-20240830-2300	Damage - Site	DUMFRIES	Caller reports that persons unknown have cut holes in the perimeter fence to allow access to the site and contractor's digger battery has been disconnected and window has been smashed. Petrol wheelbarrow machinery has also been turned on and moved about the site.	N/A
PS-20240902-0598	Vehicle Crime - Theft from MV	STRANRAER	Caller reports that tools have been stolen from his work van, no sign of forced entry.	Tools (NFD) worth £1k.
